Regency Styles
By the beginning of the 19th century, English chandelier design changed to decorative metal frames with strings of facetted drops. This style was popular throughout Europe. Illustrated here is a typical Regency tent and bag style chandelier with 8 lights in cut glass nozzles. Height 137 cm / 54 in, diameter 97 cm / 38 in.
A Regency style tent and waterfall chandelier typical of the early 1800's. For 8 lights with cut glass nozzles and pans, dressed with icicles and octagonal buttons. Height 112 cm / 44 in, diameter 76 cm / 30 in.
An ornate design by Thomas Hope circa 1800 recreated by Wilkinson's in collaboration with Jocelyn Burton Silversmiths & Goldsmiths, London. A total of 50 internal and external lights, dressed with round icicles and round double point buttons. Height 160 cm / 63 in, diameter 100 cm / 39 cm.
Since ancient times oil has been used for lighting. The earliest examples were simple bowls filled with whale oil. Illustrated here is Wilkinson's reproduction of an ornate Regency style dishlight in gilt and dark bronze finish for 4 lights. Height 137 cm / 54 in, diameter 66 cm / 26 in.
All our dishlights feature fine lost wax brass castings, hand made split link chains and heavily cut crystal dishes. This illustration shows a simple design without reservoir and shades. Height 110 cm / 43 ¼ in, diameter 52 cm / 20 ½ in.
